on

'Current Developments and Priorities: An update from the Kyrgyz

Biography: His Excellency Mr Edil Baisalov is Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and was till recently Ambassador 

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. HE Mr Edil Baisalov came of age as Kyrgyzstan received its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and studied business administration and international relations at the American University of Central Asia and received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Kyrgyz State National University and also went abroad for further education in Turkey and the United States.  From 2008 till 2010 he lived in Sweden as a UNHCR refugee. He briefly served as chief of staff to the Head of the Interim Government in 2010, acted as her Special Representative on the bid of the Kyrgyz Republic for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2012-2013. He worked as the deputy Social Development Minister with responsibility for children, disabled and elderly. He is well known for leading social and political protest in Kyrgyz Republic and is a noted public commentator regarding human rights, democracy and corruption.
