Adeeb Khalid is professor of history at Carlteton College in Minnesota. His
research focuses on the politics of cultural reform in the Muslim world, 
particularly in early Soviet Central Asia. He is the author of 'The
Politics of Muslim Cultural Reform: Jadidism in Central Asia' and, more
recently, of 'Islam After Communism: Religion and Politics in Central Asia' 
(University of California Press: 2007). Professor Khalid has published
widely on Central Asian intellectual history and on Islamic thought and
practice in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union.
