The Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in London together with The University of Westminster are organizing a screening of documentary film “Ulugh Beg. The Man Who Unlocked The Universe”, which to be held on October 11, 2017 at 17.30 at «Regent Street Cinema»307 Regent Street, London W1B 2UW.

 

The film explores the life and scientific legacies of Ulugh Beg, the great 15th century astronomer who ruled Transoxania, Central Asia, from Samarkand during 1411-1449. Ulugh Beg’s name can be listed among the likes of Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler.

 

Directed by Bakhodir Yuldashev, the film features interviews with prominent experts and scholars from the United Kingdom, USA, France, Denmark, Russia, Uzbekistan and the Netherlands. The documentary also showcases artefacts, manuscripts and exhibits held at the Bodleian library in Oxford, the British Museum, Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur in France, and the Museum of the History of Science, St. John’s College, Oxford. Footage was also shot at Princeton University, the Griffith Observatory and the University of California.

 

Recently the film has won the Kineo Prize for The Best Foreign Documentary at the 74th Venice International Film Festival and the Best Documentary Award at the Ischia Film Festival.
