Cambridge Central Asia Forum

The GCRF UKRI COMPASS project is an ambitious UK government capacity-building initiative, aiming to extend UK research globally, to address the challenges of growth and sustainability in the developing countries. Notably, the COMPASS project, together with Cambridge University as its research partner, seeks to establish ‘the hubs of excellence’ at the top-level HEIs in Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, to enable them to act as nodes for knowledge sharing and transfer along the following three dimensions, namely research integration, impact governance, and sustainable communities.

The overarching theme of the London forum is resilience-building and developing UK’s global partnerships with the wider region of the eastern neighbourhood and Central Asia. Higher-ranking academics, including Vice-Chancellors and practitioners from Belarus, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan are taking part in this Forum, to engage with the UK’ core policy institutions, and explore options for cooperation on institutional, educational, community-building, economic and security resilience-building to make governance more effective and sustainable. The participants also include major policy stakeholders, research councils and practitioners (Westminster, DFID, FCO, WFD, IRI, BOND, EBRD, British Council, GCRF UKRI).
